With so many people coming and going 24 hours a day, the task of managing healthcare facilities can seem overwhelming.  This is especially true when trying to control service contractors like pest control, delivery, janitorial, landscaping, plumbers, painters and so many others.  HR does a good job at screening employees, but oftentimes criminals find their way onto your property as service contractors.  In fact, our statistics show 1 out of every 6 service contractors has a violent, theft or drug related criminal record; it’s no wonder why theft is so high at hospitals.  Often a service contractor will scope out your facility and see where things of value are that they can steal at a later time…mostly in the late morning hours.

Service contractors are different from vendor reps in several ways:

1. You control hiring of, or have contracts with, your service contractors.
2. They are often on your premises with unrestricted access to many areas of the hospitals as part of their job
3. They do not have an appointment and often do not check in at a certain time or with a certain individual or location.
4. With some exceptions, they usually do not access patient or sensitive areas
